It is typical to stop and take time to give thanks at Thanksgiving. Maybe you go around the dinner table and share what you’re thankful for. Or maybe you take time our of your day to tell someone you are thankful for them.
For me, I have made gratitude a daily practice. This is a practice that I began shortly after I experienced my spiritual awakening. Each day, I write down 5 things that I am grateful for. My daughter also started doing this with me. Each morning, we will sit down at the kitchen table and journal 5 things we are thankful for. Then we share what we are both thankful for that day.
How is there so much to be grateful for, you ask? It’s simple, this practice allows me to slow down and take notice of the “small” things in life to be grateful for. For example, the beauty of a sunrise, clean water, fresh sheets, my sense of smell… The list goes on!
Giving thanks each day has brought many benefits into my life. For one, I love being able to share this time with my daughter in the morning before the day gets hectic. Additionally, giving thanks each day has increased my positivity. Positivity brings optimism when it is all to easy to see things in a negative light. Materialistic items become less important when you take time to give thanks for things others may overlook.
Overall, I just feel better when I take time out of my day to be grateful for all that I have. It is easy to take things for granted. Especially when life gets so hectic.
I encourage you to begin a practice of gratitude. What are you grateful for? Share in the comments below!
