Keeping a first aid kit in your home can help clean and treat minor cuts and burns. Additionally, having supplies on hand to clean injuries is helpful in preventing infection. Accidents happen. Especially if you have kids. And even more so it seems if you are my kids! I am sure many of you can relate! I can’t tell you the number of times we have gone to urgent care for injuries my kids have gotten. But for minor injuries, we handle them at home with our first aid kit.Â
Accidents happen! Make sure you are prepared with a fully stocked first aid kit.

Shortly after I finished my video on non-food prepper items everyone should have in their home, I realized that my first aid kit could really use some work! The kit I featured in my video was originally put together by my mom when I first moved out on my own. It had been picked over many times, and a lot of items were missing.Â
In addition to the first aid kit I already had, I wanted to put together another one. This way, I could have one on each floor of my home for quick access to it. Over the summer, my son cut his hand while I was at work. Luckily, my daughter was home and was able to assist him with the cut. The only problem was, she had to run all the way from the back yard, into the house and upstairs to their bathroom to get the kit. Having a kit on each floor just seems to make sense! I would also recommend keeping a kit in your car. You can obviously pick up an entire kit, but I like to be able to personalize mine with items we may need specific to my family.
Starting a first aid kit from scratch can get pricey. That is why I started at the Dollar Tree. For a basic kit, you can find most everything you need there. I did however, order a storage box container to keep all of my supplies organized. I originally just picked up a bin from the Dollar Tree, but when you are looking for something in a hurry, it is helpful to have something that is organized instead of all thrown in together.
These items are mostly self-explanatory, so I will just list them below. If you are looking for more in-depth info, you can watch my video here.
1.      Band-Aids
2.      Gauze
3.      Antibiotic Cream
4.      Hydrogen Peroxide

All of these items are a great start to having a portable first aid kit in your home or vehicle. Obviously, these items are not the only thing you can put in your first aid kit. This is just some basics to get you started. If an injury is greater than something you can handle with your home first aid kit, seek medical attention.
