Being prepared for an emergency doesn’t just mean you have a pantry full of food. It also means you have other survival items in your home in case of an emergency. Much like food prepping, this can be overwhelming. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be! As I mentioned in my tips and tricks for a prepper pantry, you can start small so you do not become overwhelmed. I have made a list of Five Survival Items You Need Now!
Prepare yourself and your family for a survival situation with affordable and multi-purpose tools
Survival items can be situational, depending on your living situation. There are however, items that would be beneficial for everyone to have on hand. Depending on the type of situation you are facing, you may have items on hand for protection. Equally as important, make sure you handle these items responsibly, and keep them out of reach from children.
Most of the items I am sharing have dual purposes, which can double your value of the item.
*Unfortunately, some of the items I purchased for my video, are no longer available. I have found comparable products available in the description links below*
This knife set came with two knives, 1 larger and 1 smaller. It comes in a protective sheath to assist in preventing accidental injury. Additionally, there is a fire starter included in this knife set. Also included is a paracord which can be useful in survival situations. I have found a comparable product here. This is actually a 3 for 1 deal with the knife, paracord and fire starter!
There is no going wrong with this tool. It contains a whistle, compass, fire starter, signaling mirror and waterproof container for matches (matches not included). Keep track of the tool hands free, by using the lanyard around your neck. I have found the same product and as a bonus, it is a two-pack!
These flashlights have a built-in rechargeable battery that is operated with the hand crank. As a backup, the batteries have a solar power panel for ease of use. Each has a clip that can easily be attached right to your belt loop. These same flashlights can be purchased here.
Emergency heat blankets can be used as a blanket, shelter or as a signal for reflecting light. If you live in an area with cold weather, I would recommend keeping some of these in your car. I only purchased 2, but you can get a 12-pack for a very reasonable price.
If the power goes out and the cell towers are down, where will you turn to for info? Get weather and national emergency alerts on the radio. There is also an LED flashlight and charging port. Radio can be purchased here.ThereÂ
You will have peace of mind when you have these items ready in your home. Regardless of the situation, be it weather, a national disaster, or local emergency, these items can help you be more prepared in an emergency situation. It is my recommendation that you keep your items together in a waterproof container where they can easily be reached when needed. Let responsible members of your household know where these items are kept.
If your resources are limited, you can always start small. Purchase one or two items at a time, as your resources allow. Start with items that you find the most value in for you and your life situation. The great thing about all of the products mentioned above, is that they are affordable and have multiple uses.
