After I finished my 30-day minimalism challenge, I realized how much I enjoyed the routine of the challenge. I wanted to keep that momentum going. I knew I wanted to do some sort of fitness challenge. I had hula hooped in the past and had been successful at losing weight. The 30-day minimalism challenge went well, so I figured I would do this for 30 days as well.
The first of June was my start date. The deal I made with myself was to hula hoop every day for 30 minutes a day. I figured first thing in the morning would work best for me so I could get it out of the way and not have it hanging over my head all day long. I found that worked best for me when I was doing the minimalism challenge.
It’s easy to forget how much it hurt to use a weighted hula hoop.I was very sore the first few days. After my first week I got into a good routine (minus being sick for a day) and really began to enjoy showing up for myself and my workouts.
By the second week of the challenge, I had missed another day and got really down on myself about it. I considered quitting, but that is what old me would do. New me is not quitting. It is not an option for me.
By day 13, things got real. This became less of a fitness challenge and more about showing up for myself and being disciplined on a consistent basis. Despite not seeing any physical changes, I continued on with the journey because I was making a lot of mental and emotional changes within myself.
Day 30 came and went without me losing any weight. What a failure and disappointment. Right? Absolutely not! If for nothing else that I overcame some mental blocks that I have been harboring for YEARS!
I decided to continue on with the challenge and I am so glad I did. The first week after the 30 days were up the scale finally started moving in the right direction. I lost inches and pounds. Imagine if I just quit after the challenge was over! I changed my diet and my mind about how I look at weight loss.
What has been a constant struggle in my life has finally changed. I have finally changed the way I think about this and it has been life changing.
