There is no shortage of products on the market today in the beauty category! Everything from makeup to makeup remover, toner, serums, etc. And that is just for your face! The list for products for your skin, body and nails is just as long!
Did you know that there is no law requiring some cosmetics to acquire FDA approval? There are regulations, but the lack of laws leaves some room for gray area on the ingredients and labeling included in cosmetics. According to the FDA, “manufactures are not require to register their cosmetic establishments or file their product formulations with the FDA.“
Do you have any idea what kind of ingredients are in the beauty products you are using? Or better yet, can you pronounce the ingredients in these products? Chances are, you cannot. From deodorant to face powder, the product ingredients can be quite shocking!
Like laundry detergent, cosmetics contain formaldehyde. Great for embalming bodies, not so much for your skin, which is very much alive! This chemical can cause skin, eye, nose and throat irritations. Parabens are also often found in cosmetics and beauty products. According to WebMD, this preservative is know to cause skin irritations as well as disruptions to the endocrine system and harm to the reproductive system.
Making the switch to more natural products can seem overwhelming! Especially when you consider just how many products you use on a daily basis. There are natural alternatives on the market, but that can get pricey. I am choosing to start by making my own products. This has been a slow process, but I am happy with how it is going so far!
